Owner/Founder/Head of Design
In Bensonhurst, Brooklyn back in 1981, Jordache Jeans were the hot item to have at school. My parents refused to spend the money on just a fancy tag, so to save face I’d remove the label from my generic brand jeans and customize them with my own style and label. In 7th grade I was painting my sneakers and selling custom friendship bracelets in middle school as my first business. I learned to sew from my mother, learned fabrication from working in my parent's sign shop, and learned about the world of art from my father, who was a master painter.
Today, I continue to explore my ideas through my own businesses and try to design custom items that reflect my past creative experiences and current design aesthetic. I founded The Brooklyn Factory as an art studio for original & limited edition pieces to be used everyday. It is housed in a studio above our original sign store Color Signs in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn.
Born in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil from a Canadian Mother and Uruguayan father, Erik spent his formative years living all over the world, eventually settling down in the NYC area. He found his calling in the music industry and film, working for Sean “Puffy” Combs and later for venerated film director Martin Scorsese. He enjoys reading, coming up with silly ideas, and spending time with his dog Monkey.
